Meet The LINTAN Health Weight Loss Specialists

Dr. Sultan Linjawi – Endocrinologist (Diabetes and Metabolism Specialist)

Sultan was originally educated and trained in England. He holds a degree in Histopathology as well as being a member of the Royal College of Physicans (United Kingdom) and a fellow of the Australasian College of Physicans. He trained in diabetes and metabolism in Newcastle, NSW and he currently lives and works in the Coffs Harbour Area. Sultan is married with 2 children and is a passionate fisherman.


Dr. Claire Morbey- Endocrinologist (Diabetes and Metabolism Specialist)

Claire graduated in Medicine and completed her postgraduate education in the United Kingdom before moving to Australia to undertake specialist training in Endocrinology and Diabetes.  She loves living in Newcastle and raising her two young children here! Claire is excited to be able to help people on their journey towards achieving their most healthy weight.


Casey O’Dell – Accredited Practising Dietitian/Accredited Nutritionist

Casey has been working in weight loss and diabetes since graduating from her studies in 2006. Casey studied at Newcastle University the undergraduate degree of nutrition and dietetics. She has a strong passion for health and well being and helping people with their nutritional goals. Casey has been involved with designing the LINTAN Health program and presents about 40% of the content. Casey runs the food component, supermarket tour and follow up overview and question sessions.

Specialist 

Lachlan Mitchell - Dietitian, Exercise and Sport Scientist

Lachlan grew up in Sydney, completing two degrees in nutrition, dietetics, exercise and sport science at the University of Sydney, graduating in 2008. He has an abundance of experience in weight loss and diabetes whilst working as a dietitian at Westmead and Hervey Bay Hospitals and as an exercise specialist at a small gym in Sydney. Since graduating he has also lectured in nutrition and exercise at the Australian Catholic University, and has worked as a consultant dietitian at NSWIS, providing sports nutrition advice to athletes.


Karen Fry - Accredited Dietitian

Karen is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and health coach with over ten years experience in dietetics. She has worked in hospitals locally and overseas, lectured at the University of Newcastle and worked at a health retreat in the Hunter Valley where she designed the guest menu and ran nutrition workshops. She now operates a private clinic specialising in weight management and diabetes. With a holistic approach, Karen empowers her clients to take responsibility for their wellness, helping them to identify their intrinsic motivators and enabling them to make sustainable, health-enhancing lifestyle changes. When she’s not talking about food, she’s cooking it, or she’s out in the backyard with her two young children growing it!


Tarnya Davis- Clinical Psychologist

Tarnya is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the profession for over 17 years.  She has been employed in various settings, including the Sexual Assault Service, the National Health Service in Britain, a rehabilitation service and a Sydney University.  She has had a successful private practice since 1995 and is the Director of NewPsych Psychologists.  She is an accredited counsellor with the Victims of Crime Bureau, Veteran’s Affairs and is also an acknowledged specialist for victim of crime and medico-legal reports as a Children’s Court Clinician. Tarnya is a regular columnist in the Newcastle Morning Herald and a presenter on ABC State wide radio. 


Leigh Hopper - Newcastle Director 

Leigh Hopper is a Director of LINTAN Health and manages the program based in Newcastle. Given that she was born and bred in Newcastle she considers herself a proud Novocastrian.

Leigh trained in pharmacy early in her career, working in both retail and hospital environments in Newcastle, Queensland and London.

After having her daughter she returned to Newcastle to pursue her career working part time with Bounty Hospital Services setting up ante natal education in Newcastle & Hunter Valley hospitals.

She then worked full time in the pharmaceutical industry, launching and promoting a broad range of medications to GP’s in the Newcastle, Central Coast and north coast regions.

In 1997 Leigh was promoted to Senior Executive Specialist Representative, launching and promoting cardiovascular and diabetes drugs to cardiologists, endocrinologist, nephrologists, general physicians and geriatricians.

Leigh has trained with Diabetes Australia and has an Associate Diploma of Medical Sciences from Monash University. Leigh is passionate about early intervention and prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease and believes through programs like LINTAN Health, individuals can learn to take charge of their health and wellbeing and improve their lifestyle and longevity.

She also believes that chronic disease such as diabetes should be managed in the community and that education is vital in achieving this aim.

Leigh offers support to the team of specialists in the Newcastle program and ensures that all LINTAN clients feel welcome and confident in their choice to make a Change for Life. Jacqui Jarrett – Exercise Specialist

Jacqui has worked in the fitness industry for the last 20 years and has worked in areas such as training and management, group fitness, weight loss, corporate health and personal training. As a qualified and registered personal trainer and pilates instructor, Jacqui finds her experience and training in these areas is of great benefit to her clients in achieving their health and fitness goals.


Glen Barnett - Exercise Specialist

Glen Barnett is a qualified and registered personal trainer with 10 years experience in the area of weight loss and lifestyle improvement within the fitness industry.  He has worked closely with weight loss groups over the years and has helped many of his clients to achieve their desired weight and make complete changes to their lifestyle.  He enjoys educating people on how simple small changes to their activity levels can make big changes to their life.


Liana Burrows - Exercise Physiologist and Sports Scientist

Liana Burrows is an Exercise Physiologist and Sports Scientist Accredited with Exercise and Sport Science Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Lindenwood University United States of America. Liana specialises in providing exercise prescription for individuals and groups with weight and health related concerns. She has 3 years experience working with chronic injuries using a cognitive behavioural approach and is currently contracted to Onsite Health Solutions as a Health and Wellness Coach. Liana operates her own clinic in conjunction with other allied health professionals and in her spare time Liana volunteers with the Hunter Academy of Sport and was awarded Consultant of the Year for 2009.


Karen Plumbe – Health and Wellbeing Coach and Psychology

Karen has had a long standing passion and interest in nutrition and the psychology of eating, exercise and achieving optimal health. She studied at Newcastle University in Applied Science (Consumer Science) specialising in food chemistry, human bioscience, exercise physiology, marketing and food technology. She then undertook a psychology degree with the University of New England. She is currently enrolled at the International Coach Academy based in Melbourne  which provides coaching education to over 90 countries worldwide studying as a Certified Professional Coach. Karen is a mother of two small children and also works for the Division of General Practice coordinating education for Doctors, Practice Nurses and Practice Staff.


Suzanne Leahy – Registered Nurse, Credentialed Diabetes Educator

Suzanne has been working as a Registered Nurse for 19 years after graduating from the University of New England in 1991. She completed post graduate studies in Acute Care Nursing and Diabetes Education and Management from the University of Technology, Sydney. Suzanne’s passion is promoting a healthier lifestyle and empowering clients to manage their diabetes. She is the mother of four beautiful children and runs her own business Diabetes Solutions. Suzanne will take on the role of Program Co-ordinator for Lintan Health in Port Macquarie.


Danielle Anthony - Consultant Psychologist

Danielle is a Consultant Psychologist with a particular interest in Clinical Health Psychology. Danielle is one of the partners of Psychology One, a private practice that focuses on health psychology. She has experience in working with those with health issues, including Diabetes, and with those who would like assistance with weight loss. She is nearing completion the Professional Doctorate in Clinical and Health Psychology after finishing an Honours degree in Psychology. Along with a passion for clinical health psychology, Danielle is a dedicated mother of two and enjoys the balance of work and family life.
